The year 2010 marks the beginning of what today is the Curtea Românească poultry farm. It all started in a single production hall, at the edge of the forest, in the village of Zăicești, a few kilometers from the town of Botoșani, with great enthusiasm and a desire to promote and encourage traditional poultry raising. Over time, we modernized and gradually grew the production capacity of our microfarm - a result of work well done (if we do say so ourselves 😊) - and today we supply poultry for nearly the whole year. Our customers are poultry breeders, mostly from rural areas, who want an alternative to store-bought poultry meat and eggs.
After hatching, the day-old chicks are raised and cared for with great love and passion on our farm for at least three weeks, receiving our full attention and a complete vaccination schedule against the most common poultry diseases, after which they can be delivered to our customers as free-range chickens. The colored mixed-breed chickens (Hubbard or Sasso) make up 90% of our farm's production and are our recommendation to you for the following reasons: slow growth (giving the taste and texture of a farmyard-raised chicken), mixed breed (good for both meat and eggs), and hardiness (no special rearing conditions required). The chicken breeds we sell, along with our passion and dedication, have meant that year after year we welcome back the vast majority of our customers, who have stayed with us since the very beginning.
Puiul porumbac – a mixed-breed chick that at birth has black plumage with a small yellow star on its forehead, a classic trait of the Plymouth derivative breed.
At maturity, it develops a vertically striped grey coloring with yellow skin and legs. It is a sturdy chicken, elegant in shape and proportions. It is an ideal chicken for rural households, characterized by fast growth and hardiness.
Puiul roșu – a mixed-breed chicken that, from hatching to maturity, ranges from red to dark red plumage, with yellow skin and legs. Robust and hardy, it is intended for those who want a product with optimal weight, conformation and meat yield, while keeping the color and vitality typical of a farmyard chicken.
Puiul pestriț – a mixed-breed chick that is white with grey stripes on its back at birth, developing an ermine-grey coloring at maturity, with yellow skin and legs. This breed combines three qualities: a robust build, fast growth and hardiness, already visible from the first days of life, making it an ideal choice for rural farms.
Puiul porumbac gât-golaș – a mixed-breed chick that at birth has black plumage with a small yellow star on its forehead and the characteristic featherless "naked" neck, developing a vertically striped grey coloring at maturity, with yellow skin and legs. The main features of our "naked-neck" chickens are the fineness of the skin, lean, fat-free meat, and exceptional hardiness. With fast growth and robustness visible from the very first days of life, it is ideal for rural farms.
Puiul roșu gât-golaș – a mixed-breed chick with red plumage and the characteristic featherless "naked" neck. At maturity, it develops dark red plumage, with yellow skin and legs. The main features of our "naked-neck" chickens are the fineness of the skin, lean, fat-free meat, and exceptional hardiness. With fast growth and robustness visible from the first days of life, it is ideal for rural farms.
Puiul alb – the classic industrial chicken with white plumage. It is the fastest-growing chicken in our production, using genetics with the highest yield to achieve this. We do not recommend slaughtering this bird after 75-80 days of life, as it adapts poorly to a longer rearing period. It remains the best solution for anyone aiming for good-quality meat in a short time. At maturity, the chicken has white plumage with yellow skin and legs.
Feed - the diet of poultry raised at home for meat or eggs must contain all the elements needed for proper development. Chicks need feed that meets their nutritional requirements for growth and health. The feed sold by Curtea Românească contains no meat meal, growth hormones, antibiotics, or other prohibited or non-compliant substances.
Bedding - choosing the right bedding is just as important as choosing the chicken breed we raise or the feed we give the chicks (the "breed, feed, housing" principle). Curtea Românească uses and sells premium bedding, a natural and sustainable product made from 100% pure spruce, with no additives, no dust and no germs thanks to heat treatment.
