Shelter – must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before the chicks arrive.
The shelter is disinfected using products available at veterinary pharmacies, which have a virucidal and bactericidal effect.
Bedding – must provide good absorption of moisture from droppings and is achieved by laying a layer of straw or wood shavings at least 5 cm thick on the dry floor.
Bedding must always be clean and dry, in order to prevent bacteria growth.
Temperature – chicks' comfort temperature is 18 degrees Celsius. The temperature can be measured at bedding level using a room thermometer.
The growth and development of chicks is influenced by both the quantity and the quality of the food and water consumed.
A balanced diet, using quality feed, ensures optimal development.
Chick feed should contain: carbohydrates (cereals – corn, wheat), proteins (sunflower, sunflower meal, soybean meal, peas or bran), fats (cereal oil or sunflower oil, which also provides protein and oil), minerals (salt, calcium), vitamins.
If you provide them with green space, the chicks will find on their own the vitamins, animal-origin protein and some of the minerals they need.
Water
It is important for water to always be fresh, from a safe source, and constantly accessible.
We recommend using drinkers designed for chicks, to avoid accidental spilling and damage to the bedding.
